Small Business Highlight: Plaza Edition
Friends & Supporters -
As you know, it’s been a dynamic week in downtown Oakland.
We’ve seen a groundswell of public momentum to change the way we do business in this country. With a greater level of income inequality that at any time since 1929, we face a crisis that requires us to take bold and immediate national action to create jobs and economic security.
Here in Oakland, a big part of our success in this will be through our support for the small businesses here in our community that are doing all that they can to contribute to the local economy.
With many participating in a General Strike tomorrow, we wanted to take a moment to highlight some of the great, local small businesses right in Frank H. Ogawa Plaza to eat and shop – fun places to go on Thursday or Friday – whose owners and workers are, like us, part of the 99%.

We encourage you to get out and show your support for these hardworking folks on Thursday & Friday of this week – we’ll call them “local support days.”
Oakland blogger and activist Pamela Drake wrote a great piece in her blog this morning, in fact, discussing the need to support our hard-working local businesses to keep our economy thriving:
“It’s possible that strikers will patronize small local shops this Wednesday, but since one of the demands of the General Strike is ‘no participation in the economy,’ I’m calling for a special day to support our local small businesses.”
We hope you’ll join in supporting this effort.
And, as always, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at (510) 238-7008 or by e-mail.
